Kris Aquino and James Yap's separation: Their marriage is over

Anyone who has watch Sunday's The Buzz probably knows the news. Kris Aquino and James Yap have already decided to separate - not temporarily, not on a whim, not separate beds but separate lives. Kris stated on The Buzz, "Sumuko na'ko."

That's all we know and that's all we need to know. Kris is not going to let the whole country into the details of their marital problems. She only explained that she and James Yap have already tried so hard to fix the problems in their relationship for the sake of Baby James and Josh. We all know that. Kris Aquino has said numerous times that she will do her best to save her marriage because she wants a father for her kids.

But it seems that this is the really the end of the road for Kris Aquino and James Yap.

We all know she's the drama queen. But watching her on The Buzz last Sunday... you can feel that her words were said with caution and her decision was given with much thought. This is not another whim from an immature relationship. I thought, when I watched her, this could be one of the rare times I saw her with much maturity.

What happened?

We all want to know that. I bet all people would speculate. We would go back to James Yap's links with other women - that employee from Dr. Vicky Belo's office (what's her name again?) and Mayen Austria in Valle Verde.

Personally - I think Kris Aquino has done a lot for her marriage. She quit the movies to give time to her family. She refused any kissing scene for James' sake. Well maybe she worked a little too hard in the past months to aid her brother Noynoy in the campaigns. But what is wrong with that? I imagine maybe she lost time for her family juggling work and campaigns - doesn't anybody realize how hard that is? I bet she's really exhausted by now. Really.

On the other hand, we don't know James' side. We don't know for sure what really happened. We all know... it's really sad. The news could make it to the headlines of Inquirer or The Philippine Star if it could. Despite being herself, we all want Kris Aquino to finally settle down with a good marriage, right? Afterall, we would all be spared from her love-drama when that happens.

*Kris Aquino also said goodbye to The Buzz. She quit from being the show's host to minimize complaints about her and her tactless self and not cause further embarassment to her brother, Noynoy.s

John Lloyd admits relationship with Shaina Magdayao

... which is not surprising at all.

You know that feeling when the news' subject comes out to reveal the secret that everybody already knows? Like Ricky Martin being gay? Well this story is like that to me.

The story of John Lloyd and Shaina Magdayao being together is no shocker. Everybody knows they're going out. Everybody knows that they were alone together for some time in Boracay when ASAP XV was there. They've been sighted by no less than Kris Aquino herself in Shangri-La. There are awkwards moments between John Lloyd and John Pratts.

So many John Lloyd said, "yes, it is us" (is that a valid English expression for "kami nga"?) Boy Abunda on The Buzz continues to more juicy questions. Is John Lloyd a womanizer? Was there a time that Ruffa and Shaina were in his heart at the same time?

And the answers to those questions are not so interesting at all. He continues to be vague, only saying that the issue is already over and that the persons involved have already talked it over and are now okay. Nag-usap na, okay na... Same old showbiz answers.

Oh well, the people already know the answers.

Charice made it on GLEE! Let's Party!

It wasn't true then. But IT IS. NOW!

Charice, our very own young international singing sentation has indeed made it to Glee Season 2. This is not a running rumor, this time, folks. Michael Ausiello and Andy Patrick of the Entertainment Weekly announced that the news is true and that Charice is going to be on Glee Season 2.

Reports say that Charice's role will be a rival of Rachel Berry (Lea Michele). That part is really exciting! At last, Charice will be part of something in her own age group.

Aside from the Entertainment Weekly report, Charice herself also announced the news on her Twitter account:

There are so many people thrilled about this news. Those who are yet to get familiar with Charice are asked by Charice fans to watch her on YouTube.

There are a few concerns though by Glee fans:

  1. Can Charice act?

  2. Does Glee need more characters given that other characters on Glee ie. Mike and Matt barely have dialogues and that the others need more character development
Let me give a few comments. On Q1, Charice can act. She was in an MMK episode, right? Plus I don't think that Charice should have superb acting skills on Glee. Because I don't think Quinn, Santana and Britney do. And the rest, well.... I think in Glee, the good actors are Rachel, Will and Sue.

And just let me say, Finn can't dance.

On Q2, I really think New Directions need more members. Just look at Vocal Adrenaline. Damn, they're really good and they can do a lot and rule the stage because of their numbers, too. On a side note, I honestly think that Vocal Adrenaline deserved to win in the Regionals. And it seemed to be that their sectionals performance was better than what they did in the Regionals. Just saying.

I think that if New Directions has as many members as Vocal Adrenaline, all of them should not have a part in the storyline. It would be a huge mess.

I think Glee needs more characters before they marry Will to Ms. Corcoran. Or Mercedes develops a relationship with Quinn. Come on! The relationships got a little messy after that sectionals episode. They need to expand before it gets crazy.

So there. This is news is so big Charice is now a trending topic on Twitter. Follow Charice

Charice Rocks! ('Pyramid' lyrics inside!)

Charice and her single "Pyramid" continues to soar high up the charts producing crowds of fans for our young Pinoy singing sensation. Charice has indeed become a star bigger than she ever imagined in her life.

Just recently, she performed at the annual KFest at the Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, New York. The KFest is a hugue event which featured other big stars like Adam Lambert and of course, her Pyramid partner, rapper Iyaz.

Charice couldn't be happier as the crowd sang with her as she performed "Pyramid".

Charice mentioned before that she really liked the song not only because of the music but also because of its well-formed and compelling lyrics. Don't know what she's talking about? Below are the lyrics of the famous international song. Sing with Charice!

Pyramid

Shawty's love is like a pyramid (ooh)

We stand together till the very end (eh ooh)
There'll never be another love for sure (ooh)
Iyaz and Charice let we go

Stones, heavy like the love you've shown (shown)
Solid as the ground we've known (known)
And I just wanna carry on
We took it from the bottom up (no no no)
And even in a desert storm (yeah)

Sturdy as a rock we hold (oh)
Wishing every moment froze
Now I just wanna let you know
Earthquakes can't shake us
Cyclones can't break us
Hurricanes can't take away our love

Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top (at the top baby), like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep on going
Forever we will stay, like a pyramid

Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh)
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh)
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh eh (oooh)

Cold (cold), never ever when you're close (close)
We will never let it fold (fold)
A story that was never told
Something like a mystery (yoh!)
And every step we took we've grown

Look how fast the time has flown
A journey to a place unknown
We're going down in history
Earthquakes can't shake us (oh)
Cyclones can't break us (oh)
Hurricanes can't take away our love

Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock (hey!)
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top, (at the top baby) like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing (wind is blowing)
We'll never fall just keep it going (keep it going)
Forever we will stay, like a pyramid (eh oh)

Like a pyramid girl let me show you
That I love you so much
That we gonna get through (oh oh)
Even when there's storms
I will never go, Ima be the one to keep you safe (hey)
Before was our love back it up more than enough
Holding on to one another be the cover when it's rough (oh oh)
Mother nature (hey) or disaster won't stop at happy ever after

Pyramid, keep it going (like a pyramid, like a pyramid)
Oh oh ooooh (like a pyramid, like a pyramid)

Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock (solid rock)
It feels just like it's heaven's touch (oooh)
Together at the top (at the top baby, at the top girl), like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep on going (keep it going)
Forever we will stay (Charice), like a pyramid (what what)

Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top (at the top baby, at the top girl), like a pyramid (pyramid)
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep it going
Forever we will stay (ooh), like a pyramid

Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh eh

The Mariel Rodriguez and Zanjoe Marudo Break-up

Mariel Rodriguea and Zanjoe Marudo are now declared ex-couples. Each of them talked about the break-up issue and there should be no speculation whether they really broke up or not. It is true.

Zanjoe is back to being an eligible bachelor.

Anyway, as always, many people speculate that the reason for the break-up is a third-party slut who gets in the way of a happy couplehood. The third-party speculation is like an echo always ringing whenever there's a break-up -- people like juicy controversies. It's as if the break-up is a boring story if it didn't end in infidelity.

There are rumors that Robin Padilla has been courting Mariel Rodriguez during his host stint in 'Wowowee'. Robin apparently gives special attention to Mariel among the many lady hosts of Wowowee. If you were Mariel and has to choose between Zanjoe and Robin, who would you rather pick?

However, Mariel denied that there's something going on between her and Binoy. Robin said whatever's between him and Mariel stays in the four corners of their noontime show - and frankly, that could mean anything.

Both Mariel and Zanjoe denied rumors of third-party issue regarding the break-up. So you ask, why did they split up?

Priority issues, I guess.

Mariel disclosed that her ex-boyfriend had been giving much priority to his family than her - which is really a typical Filipino couple-issue. Over the course of their relationship, it could be somehow observed that Mariel seemed more into the guy than the other way around. She expressed her affection more on TV. And anyone remember the silver necklace - branded bag issue?

Most likely, Mariel couldn't take it anymore that Zanjoe lacked in the department of showing his affection/love to his girlfriend. Maybe Mariel felt she loved him more that he did.

But we could only speculate. Afterall, showbiz is all about speculation.

The Ultimate Dying Wish: NOT GRANTED!

I just recently come across this story that was way back in 2003.

All Josh Morten wanted before he died was a blow job from Cameron Diaz. The 15-year old leukemia patient from Philadelphia didn't ask for much in his 4-year struggle with the terminal illness. His father said he didn't complain much nor asked for big things so when the boy asked for his fantasy to be fulfilled, his parents did everything to make it come true.

And of course, they failed. Josh Morten died without getting his dying wish.

The parents are quite mad at Cameron Diaz. They did their best to contact her but all they got were request denials. Josh's father ranted complaining about women like Cameron who is pretty much well-off and yet couldn't grant a dying teen's request.

It must be really sad for the side of the parents because all they ever wanted was to make their dying son happy. Surely their intentions were clean; thinking only for what's best for their son, Josh.

On the other hand, I only wish that they eventually came to their senses and forgave Cameron Diaz for not granting the wish. Imagine if Cameron did it -- I'm sure thousands of dying people would beg for the same thing. Should the actress grant all of their requests?

Come on, Cameron Diaz is a woman -- a human being who deserves some respect. She is not some kind of charitable slut who's going to go down on a dying person.

And the tone of the dad about some women being filthy rich and yet couldn't grant a request from a "far less fortunate" and dying teen.

People, shouldn't we stop looking at people as social class, as money, as fame? People are people. Human beings. Are being less fortunate and dying excuses for a teen or any person to disrespect a person more fortunate?
Let me stray from the sad story and rant for a while:

All people deserve some respect. Less fortunate ones does not have the right to exploit the rich ones. I don't understand why many people, especially here in the Philippines, could almost crucify rich people or politicians when they steal from the country when they, themselves, steal from their own offices, their friends, etc. Many do not pay proper taxes and always try to evade due payment -- isn't that stealing from the country? Stealing is stealing.

When parents lie to their children, the episode would be MMK-worthy. Sons and daughters would go ballistic and would be crying rivers of tears, "Nagsinungaling kayo eh!" I bet they lied more times to their parents about a sleep-over or money for a "project" in school. Lying is lying.

I really wonder how is it a lesser crime if a less fortunate did it to a more fortunate one.

Willie Resign!!

It's been the talk of the town aside from the national elections. Willie Revillame dedicated Wowowee air time to lash out on Jobert Sucaldito for bashing him and the noon time show.

The ire was so evident. Willie is mad. And then the people are mad. Despite the claps on the set, boo's all over the internet echoes. They shout, "So you say you'll resign? JUST DO IT!!"

The last straw that prompted Willie to lash out on TV is the recent comment of Jobert Sucaldito in his radio show: Bakit gine-guest sa Wowowee ang mga batang bagsak ang grades?

I'm sure Willie found a good reason to retort, saying that Wowowee is a show for everyone, including failing student, garbage collectors, cancer patients and others.

POINT: A failing student is WAAAY different from being a garbage collector or being a cancer patient. Failing is a result of irresponsibility. Poverty is not even a good excuse because there are many poor students who are quite motivated. They work and study hard to be scholars. Those are the students who are worth mentioning. On the other hand, hailing failed students is not a motivation for them to study for their futures. May Wowowee naman, bakit pa?

Willie even mentioned something about campaigns and supporters. He thinks that Jobert, who is a The Buzz host is biased against him because he supports Villar. ambabaw...

Willie scolded the ABS-CBN management for tolerating mudslinging among members of the network. He stressed that they are "kapamilya" and that they shouldn't be hurling at each other who are under the same roof. He scolded the management like they're HIS staff.

He then threatened to resign if ABS-CBN would not do something about Jobert Sucaldito. Wow. Spoiled brat.

He's saying that they should be like one happy family and not criticize one another. Oh, but I thought that family should be your number one critics. I thought they should be the one who first notices the problems with you before someone hits you in the face. My point is, Jobert is being family to Willie; the management is not.

Jobert thinks, is he and his show that big for Willie to be affected by his hurls?

Sabi nga po, "BATO, BATO SA LANGIT ANG TAMAAN, WAG MAGAGALIT".

They are all over the internet. No, not jejemons. Willie haters. There are hundreds of comments on PEP, Facebook, Facebook fan pages, even the poll on the ABS-CBN website show that many people disapprove of Willie's action.

*let him resign image came from FB fan page.

Star Cinema's In My Life Bags Awards

Star Cinema's In My Life bags major awards at the 26th Star Awards for Movies of the Philippine Movie Press Club. Among their major awards are as follows:
  • Movie of the Year
  • Movie Director of the Year (Olivia Lamasan)
  • Luis Manzano (Movie Supporting Actor of the Year)
  • John Lloyd Cruz (Movie Actor of the Year)
  • Ms. Vilma Santos (Movie Actress of the Year)
In My Life also topped the box office for the year 2009 along with Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd's You Change My Life.

No doubt that In My Life is an excellent movie with a touching screenplay and heart-wrenching twists.

Let me say heart-wrenching again.

The movie is one of the most excellent movies that I have seen but it's also one that I would hesitate to watch again. The first time I watched the movie, it made my heart break that I didn't finish it. For me, it was so sad.

The Star for all Seasons proved that she still has not lost her luster even after spending most of her time working as governor of Batangas. She was such an effective actress. I don't know if anyone noticed but when I watched the movie, I could feel the external effort to be loud and expressive and like many mothers, they have this inner emotional pains that almost nobody knows. She seems weak but she's trying to be strong and the unfortunate events that fall on her are just sad.

If there's anything about this movie, it's the depth. There's depth in the portrayal of roles. There are two layers that could be strongly felt. There's depth in the story, it's almost whole.

One controversy surrounding this movie is the gay kiss that John Lloyd and Luis shared in this movie. I am impressed. The kiss is nowhere malicious - just loving. It wasn't torrid and there's no need for it. The simple kiss coupled with the other emotions of care, love, hope and worry -- it's artistic. It's not a screen kiss made to cause talk for the movie.

Do I praise this movie so much? Maybe because this movie deserves it. All praises for the actors and all the people behind this movie.

What do you think of the movie?

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash 1st evictee: Potz

The Philippines has decided through their votes, they want Jalosjos no more.

It is no doubt that Romeo "Potz" Jalosjos' surname brought intrigue to the Filipino ears when they heard it the first time. A Jalosjos is entering Big Brother's house. We can probably say that it's a double-edged sword that Potz had to risk taking. Either the country will love or not love him. We love him, we love him not - it's a game of chances.

Potz must have challenging experiences while bearing the last name. He must be a teen who have been quickly judged based on not what he is but the reputation of a man before him. It must have been a sad experience - to be judged. And he entered the Big Brother house in order to prove to the world that he is not a man to be associated with something despised by society. He is a man of his own, a man who has his own story to tell.

Unfortunately, he didn't stay long in the house to tell his story long enough. Whether his fate was determined by his last name or it was just his own person that didn't touch the Filipino much -- we cannot tell for sure.

Why do you think Potz got evicted?

David Archuleta cited in a NY Gay Bar

Rumors spread that Idol David Archuleta is gay as he was cited at Club 57, a gay bar in New York.

Archuleta said that he was only there because he got invited to watch Charice perform. He was totally clueless about the place. He surely knows now to ask first before going anywhere!

Like Charice, the young Idol was very gracious in answering questions. He was really amiable and only laughed the issue off. I didn't watch a video of him during an interview regarding this issue but his quoted words are full of sincerity and youth. Is David Archuleta gay? I don't think so. (Although I admit, he looked a little bit like one. On the other hand, I think it's just because he looks so young and happy [gay])

Speaking of our Archie here, have you seen his A Thousand Miles video? He was young then and very talented. Check this out:

Gretchen Baretto on MMK topped ratings

Gretchen Baretto proves that she's more than the glamour and walk-out drama. Last Saturday's MMK Episode, "Larawan" featured the controversial Baretto in the story of love and pains in her desire to have a mind and life of her own away from her parents' clasps.

Gretchen Baretto proved once again that she has so much to offer in her career as an actress. The actress can be found on and off the acting scene but when she does show, she gives the audience what they deserve.

In the Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, Gretchen gave an excellent performance in her portrayal of different emotions -- from begging her parents to give her control of her own life, to love, to hurt, to the motherly concern that throws away self-pride. It was all felt in her acting that even I - who is not much of a Baretto fan - noticed.

True enough, the Saturday primetime rating shows the episode got a whopping 31.4% against her sister, Claudine Baretto's show on GMA which only got 14.7%

ON THE MMK EPISODE

Together with Gretchen's acting prowess, much can also be said of the storyline of Maalaala Mo Kaya last Saturday. A woman named Maria, wanting to gain control of her life, marries a good soldier and had 2 kids. Thinking of the future of her kids, she throws away everything to accept the love of a priest (Jomari Yllana). Against all odds, they went to a place far from people who throw stones at them, calling she and the priest immorals.

Seems that life got so much better after that. Maria (Baretto) is climbing in her teaching career, which should work for the family since they hope fora better life. Her family life was sacrificed including time for her children and time for her husband. She later found out that her husband is molesting her daughter. They got separated and she went back to her parents to continue living their life.

It was not a simple story. It's a story packed with controversies -- not only a priest commiting himself in marriage but a priest molesting a young child. It could be too much for the Church to take but the episode didn't go without saying that all should be forgiven because tao lang tayo, nagkakamali.

The twist in the MMK episode made it more engaging to watch. It raises brows. The story pardoned but it leaves something in its audience. If it didn't cause much protest from the viewers, it opened eyes to the possibilities of errors even from the sacred sector of the society.

Baby James: Villar!

Alright, the mommy said, it's "Viyar" but who cares about baby talk when all those in the Noynoy Bacolod campaign rally (plus everyone on Youtube) could understand it's the name of Noynoy Aquino's rival, "Villar."

Kris Aquino, the mother of Baby James, is bringing his son to campaign rallies, teaching the 2-year old to campaign and/or exposing the kid for well, exposure and fame. There's her, urging the baby to shout "Noynoy" instead, he shouted the Villar's name, much to their embarassment.

Kris Aquino said in her tweet that she already apologized to her brother and sisters about the incident.

And while she was on it, camp Villar celebrated much - I imagine with grin on their faces. Manny Villar didn't waste time in adding salt to injury by saying, "It's surprisingly amusing to hear it straight from the babe's mouth…natutuwa ako dyan kasi ang mga bata ay busilak ang kalooban at 'di nagsisinungaling."

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Baby James "endorsed" Villar - though that seemed to be the effect. Both sides should understand that this is a 2-year old in the middle who does not know what he was doing - God forgive him.

Why did he say what he's not supposed to say? Quick response is this: Blame the Villar - ever so viral - ad campaigns. Those campaign ads that just stick to your eardrums and crawls in your head stay there and make camp. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid can sing, "Nakayigo ka na ba sa dagat ng basuya..."

Lessons learned?
  1. Thou shall not use a kid's innocence (and/or ignorance) for personal use. A kid is not a robot; a kid has a functioning brain.
  2. Thou shall not bring a 2-year old in out of town campaigns with hundreds of people and booming speakers for he/she shall be tired and be "naughty."
  3. Thou must pay for a jinggle composer who can produce ad campaigns that shall invade the ears, the brain and the subconscious.

Adam Carolla got to the Pinoy's nerves

Comedian and radio personality, Adam Carolla, just got the Filipinos pissed when he ranted about Pacquiao's disagreement to Floyd Mayweather Jr's drug-test request and then insulted the rest of the Filipinos.

"Get a f***ing life as a country," said Carolla when he ranted about how Manny Pacquiao is the country's biggest celebrity - and popular enough to win a position in the May elections. "Really? You want some guy with brain damage running your country? Why don't you get your s##t together?" he added.

So now, Adam Carolla is on the Filipino's 'black list' just like Teri Hatcher of Desperate Housewives who just delivered a line that contains racial slur against Filipinos. (I wondered why the Pinoys didn't hunt the writer/director down. Aah, the curse of being an actor.)

Nobody would really want to irk the Filipinos because we come with our dos-por-dos, broken bottles, balisongs and other DIY bombs that nobody has ever heard of. No, there are no red, blue, black nor yellow wires to cut and detonate. It just goes BOOM! along with your heads. Haha!

Oh no, my dear fellowmen, I am not insulting us as barbarians and a little behind on weapons and ammo. In fact, it is our advantage that we are survivors and can use just about anything in battle. And that didn't come from me; it's an idea from my political dynamics professor.

Alright, enough about that. Going back to Carolla...

Dear Adam, a little research should be done before ranting and if you're a professional, you should know that. Manny Pacquaio has always been very famous YET he didn't win the last election to govern his province of General Santos. We don't know what's gonna happen now but I believe that people wants to see him just as a boxer, not a politician. And if anyone wants him to be a politician, I bet the reason is that they see him as a kind, generous, religious and family-oriented person which manifests Filipino values. I'm not entirely sure of the last one but the mother-son relationship is pretty much clearer than crystal.

You said that Manny Pacquiao prayed to "chicken bones." Well I just need to grin on that. Whatever and whoever he prays to, it's sure making him win. Maybe Joshua Clottey or Erik Morales should start parying to "chicken bones" too.

Piece of advice, dear Adam, there are really more things about the Philippines to ridicule and rant about that can be really funny and/or embarassing. If you wanna do that, at least be funny! Pick the right ones and you might just hit some funny bones like comedians are supposed to.

Fellow Pinoys... let's not be so pikon about it, okay? Let's just forget about it and stop being cry babies because if we keep on whining, that just proves that we don't have a life.

What do you think? To forgive or not to forgive?

Manny Pacquiao forgave and so should we because "tao lang tayo":

Classic Lenten Movies: The Passion of the Christ

Most people, especially in the Christian country of the Philippines, have already heard about the crucifixion and the suffering of Jesus on the cross to save man from sure damnation. All must have seen the numerous replicas of Jesus on the cross in Churches and elsewhere. The cross must be the most popular symbol, yet, do you know what it means?

Here’s the Christian movie that will show you the answer. It elicited more controversy than any Christian-inspired movie in modern time. It’s The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson.

The Passion of the Christ relates the story of Jesus and His Crucifixion. Much depicted in this movie is the suffering he went through during that time. A lot of effort has been put in this movie such as getting actors who speak Latin/Aramaic, intensive costume and make-up and not to forget actually being nailed and whipped.

The movie focused more on the suffering of Christ – how He suffered for the sins of the people. It is meant to make the audience realize how Jesus – a God – went through the suffering just to make way to salvation of humankind.

The combination of the story and movie production came so strong and effective in drawing emotions from the audience. It could be the most effective Christian film in modern time. On the first day of the movie’s release, a 56-year old from Kansas collapsed and died later while watching the crucifixion movie. Cries and wails could be heard all over the cinemas running this movie.

Indeed, The Passion of the Christ brought the “suffering of Jesus” into a whole new level of meaning to its audience.

Movie Trivia:

  • James Caviezel who played Jesus got accidentally whipped twice in the making of movie. He also got hit by lightning during the crucifixion scene along with the assistant director, Jan Michelini who got hit twice. Meanwhile, it was Mel Gibson’s hand that was nailed to the cross in the movie.
  • “lack of interest” was the reason why the movie was never popularly released in Israel.

Classic Lenten Movies: The Ten Commandments

The Season of Lent in the Philippines has been a bit boring for me when I was a kid. No shows on TV, we had no video games and other fun stuff and we didn’t go out to swimming resorts and beaches – basically because it gets too crowded and stressful instead of relaxing.

We were just at home, watching what’s on TV (No DVD’s at that time; 90’s). Every year is the same: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. The 2-hour and 30 minutes movie played on the tube. As if the family hasn’t memorized it yet – from TV, Church and Sunday school (and school).

It’s the Ten Commandments by Cecil B. DeMille shown in 1923.

It’s a true classic. It’s long but it’s also worth the watch. There may be more modern commandment-movies but DeMille’s film is still captivating. Just keep in mind that this was produced way back in 1923 so detach yourself from thoughts of modern graphics and special effects.

Movie Trivia:

  • The chariot crashes in the prologue and in other parts of the movie were spontaneous and not choreographed. Because of this, many bit players were injured. No serious injury, though. They went back to work immediately after being treated.

It’s 2010. Do you still remember the 10 Commandments?

  1. "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”; “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.”
  2. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”
  3. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.”
  4. “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
  5. “You shall not murder.”
  6. “You shall not commit adultery.”
  7. “You shall not steal.”
  8. “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.”
  9. “You shall not covet your neighbor's house.”
  10. “You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

** To COVET means to “to want to have something very much, especially something which belongs to someone else” (dictionary.cambridge.org) It’s similar to ENVY.

Loren Legarda: She’s a bitch!

I couldn’t be more amused with the vice presidential debate hosted by ABS-CBN Harapan at the La Consolacion College aired last Sunday, March 28, 2010.

Only Edu Manzano was a no-show. He said in other interviews that he thinks it’s more important to personally reach those in far regions who couldn’t watch TV shows. In my opinion, there are more people who can watch TV shows kahit sa kapitbahay lang than otherwise.

Anyway, moving on.

First, there were Jejomar Binay and Bayani Fernando. They’re sort of funny effortlessly. I don’t mean that in a bad way, they’re just plain funny – the way they look and talk.

Then there’s our bitch: Loren Legarda. Oh yes, Loren… Loren who couldn’t stop but just insert a comment on how evil Mar Roxas is. She couldn’t help but comment on how Mar isn’t doing his job – she says Mar blocked the free drugs law but Mar countered that the law they passed halved Loren’s own medicine, dati P100 ngayon P50 na lang.

Loren couldn’t help but throw her questions and just throw Mar off track – but he didn’t waver: Oras ko po ito, wag niyong kunin. Harhar!

Aaahh… is it just Loren or is it a Filipino-thing to bring somebody else down to raise oneself? It’s far too obvious in the debate that she has this deep, seething hatred towards Mar. She looked like she’s throwing daggers with her eyes or lashing whip with her tongue. She couldn’t help say how incompetent Mar is compared to her yeeaaars of political experience.

How low. Really. But watching her and other politicians mudslinging… is funny, entertaining and worth a bag of popcorn. Showbiz celebrities try their best to be tactful, but not the leaders of our country. Just saying.

Loren on Mar and Jamby on Manny. Yikeee. Love team!

Ricky Martin: Proud Homosexual

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am." - Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin, the famous Puerto Rican pop singer, has finally admitted his homosexuality. And yes, many people say, FINALLY!

We all loved (and love) Ricky Martin. Who didn’t live the “Livin’ La Vida Loca”? Who didn’t “Shake Your Bon-Bon” and danced to “She Bangs”? Ricky Martin was a craze. Everybody learned to dance to his groove. Girls certainly went gaga over him – but they’re not alone. Gays melted from his killer abs and fell in love with his voice, of course.

With a huge gay following, he was constantly being asked if he was gay. In 2000, he said, "I guess these rumours were started by people who don't have a life, or perhaps it's because they want me to be like them and I'm not. I try not to pay attention to any of these allegations. I could have been married with kids for years or have 27 girlfriends, and if people still want to go around saying that I'm gay, they will.1

Perhaps many are wondering, Why didn’t he say so before? Ricky Martin said that it’s because his loved ones advised him not to – in different ways, with different reasons. I guess many people thought of his career and how the big news could ruin everything for Martin. But now, Ricky says, “Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment.2

It’s not about his gleaming career now. It’s about him and his self. It’s about his inner peace. Writing a memoir has most likely affected his decision to come out now. He had time to think his life over – his past – and now it’s time to face that one important part of himself that he needs to say.

“The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today.3

Well said, Ricky Martin, well said. You did it for yourself but God knows how many people out there became deeply inspired.

Who's Watched and Waiting for GLEE?

Who watched Fox's Glee? Who had difficulty getting over Glee songs playing in your head over and over 'til you got the next dose in the next episode? God, I swear I couldn't take my head off 'Bust Your Windows'. It's the main reason I got hooked.

Aside from the Glee songs that are so engaging, the cast also did an excellent job on the show. There's a thin line between realistic and theatrical but it really worked. The characters and their roles are quite stereotypical but they made it look like it's non-cliche.

Just a few notes:

Rachel Berry (Lea Michele): I have to say she's annoying. Haha! There's just something about her mouth... and I know it's about her being dramatic that does it. She's misunderstood, at the bottom of the highschool food chain, but she dreams to be a star. She's so willful, it's viral. And she got a good singing voice, too.

Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith): sucks at dancing. He looks awkward. Maybe he's quite tall? ("freakishly tall") But, he's got that good-boy looks that fits the character. His difference from Puck made the love triangle interesting. [I forgot to add: I can't forget Finn's twitching toes as he sang 'I Can't Fight this Feeling' in the shower.]

Quinn Fabray's (Dianna Agron) pregnant tummy didn't get really big despite focus shots. And can someone explain why she was jumping on the mattresses while she's a few months pregnant? Other than that, admit it, she's really cute.

The rest of the cast like Artie, Tina, Mercedes, Kurt, Mr. Schu, Sue (oh, did we hate her?) , Emma and Ken are so adorable. Each has their own distinct personalities. Because of this, nobody - at least to me - really outshone the others despite bigger roles given to Rachel, Finn and Mr. Schuester. Each represents something different and each has his/her time to shine.

Will Emma and Mr. Schuester work? Will there be a chance for Rachel and Finn now that Finn's mad with Quinn and Puck? Will there be a second chance for Artie and Tina? Will there be love for Mercedes and Kurt? Glee Season 2 is coming this year - bigger and longer. Fox said it's going to add more episodes to it.

Stay tuned because GLEE's coming!!

Anne Curtis deserves more respect: Just like the Rest of US

Anne Curtis couldn't help but get emotional as her nip-slip gets posted all over multimedia channels AND in front of tabloids. Who wouldn't?

For those who didn't know (but I bet you all do), it happened during the first Boracay episode of ASAP XV. To make the long story short, Anne did a dance number with Sam Milby in her bikini top, did a lifting move, and there goes the bikini malfunction, exposing Anne's breasts to the madlang people in broad Boracay daylight and sunshine.

Of course, it's the hottest couple in town dancing on the stage so people naturally had their cameras on for videos and photos. Despite requests by the management for peope to delete all recorded evidence, they were still on the net in less than 12 hours. So disrespectful, madlang people.

Come Showtime, Anne's back to business but it was evident that she's feeling awkward about herself facing many people. It's understandable, she should have some kind of trauma and maybe a little bit of paranoia: Is there something wrong that would be posted again all over the internet? It's really sad, seeing her with dwindled confidence unlike how she used to be.

People say, celebrities should be used to intrigues and all mayhem like exposed private moments (underwear and body parts included). I wonder if it means giving up being human for the celebrity status. I wonder if that includes giving the public the power to disrespect you in every way they can.

Moreover, people started murmuirng among themselves that the nip-slip is all part of a publicity stunt for Anne and Sam's upcoming movie, Babe, I Love You. I could imagine how infuriating that sounded for Anne. Is she some kind of a deranged flop slut who would disgrace herself to beg people to watch the movie? I don't think so. With Anne and Sam's success - individually and together - they do not need nip slips; not someone who won Best Actress, not someone who got 174,875 on Twitter and many more fans out there.

Now, all celebrity - victims could do is wish that people would find another celebrity to pick on and forget about their story. That's really sad.

Cesar Montano & Toni Rose Gayda: Their Children Are Gone

Pinakamasakit sa isang magulang ang mamatayan ng anak. Anak, na isinilang sa mundo, na inalagaan at minahal ng labis, anak na ayaw mo man lang madapuan ng lamok.

Toni Rose Gayda and Cesar Montano mourn for their respective children in their unexpected deaths.

Edward James Lim, Toni Rose's son, died in an accident last Friday, March 19, when he fell from their 4th floor condo balcony in Wack-Wack Mandaluyong City. He was immediately rushed to the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital but died shortly of broken arms and ribs.

Speculations of suicide rose but his mother and his grandmother, Rosal Rosal, denied it and requested the public to stop such suspicions. They only want respect for the loved son.

Meanwhile, Christian Angelo Manhilot, Cesar Montano's son, died this morning in his father's house in Quezon City. He died of a .45 gunshot on the head. He was brought to the General Malvar Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz were in Bohol that time as Cesar prepares for his candidacy as governor of Bohol. They hurriedly went back to Manila after receiving the bad news.

Cesar believes that Angelo committed suicide and asked investigations to be stopped. He also do not want an autopsy on his son's body. The family house helpers said that the suicide might be because of a love problem with Angelo's girlfriend.

Whatever the reason is, death is a loss that cannot be altered. Let us all respect the deaths of souls loved and pray for the families to have their hearts healed from grief.

Earth Hour: Let Your World Stop

It is only for an hour, but it saves a lot.

Earth Hour 2010 happens on March 27, Saturday at 8:29PM. All major cities and towns in the country are to switch off lights for an hour. This is in response to the Earth Hour movement that provides climate change, global warming and environmental awareness.

It's a call to action, a global invite for everyone to start thinking for our planet's sake. Ah... let me rephrase that - it's for the sake of our children's future (unless you want them to walk to school with oxygen tanks behind them).

Earth Hour is not just awareness. Earth Hour actually saves around P3 million for the country. It's not affecting the future, but the present as well.

Let Your World Stop: 60 minutes

Get your eyes off led screens for a while. The world will not die if you don't tweet or update your Facebook status. Take the time to get out of your house and breathe. Look up to the moon, stars or clouds and ask yourself, when was the last time?

Take the time to sit down and use your mouth for talking, not your fingers. Chat with family or friends. Catch up and you'd be surprised to learn new things from the people closest to you.

Get to know silence. And peace.

Support Earth Hour by turning off electricity in your houses and offices.
